CCSS ELA: Google Tools for the Common Core
Picture this: Close Reading + Chromebooks + Google Classroom + Google Docs + Google Slides…Come see how it turned out!

In the Common Core, students have a new relationship with text. In this session, we’ll look at examples of using a variety of Google Apps in Google Classroom for activities to support the major shifts in the K-12 ELA/Literacy standards, including Close Reading and an emphasis on expository text. We will also look at some sample ELA performance tasks and resources that support the CCSS ELA standards.

Attendees will explore tools and strategies for answering the following questions:
What are the major shifts in the Common Core ELA?
Balancing Literary and Informational Text
Build Knoweldge in the Disciplines
Staircase of Text Complexity
Text-Based Answers
Writing from Sources
Building Academic Vocabulary

What digital resources exisit to support those shifts?

Google Docs for graphic organizers and digital active reading stratgies
Google Drawings/Slides for graphic organizers and response activities  
Google MyMaps for summarizing and retelling
Google Forms for exploring literary elements
Google Classroom "Ask a Question" for literary discussion
ELA Performance Task built in Google Classroom: PDF Passages, Google Draw synthesis activity, Google Docs writing task.
